Foster Guide
Everything you need to know about fostering cats — step by step.
Why Foster?
Fostering is one of the most impactful things you can do for cats in need.
🐾
Why It Matters
- •You save lives. Shelters are overcrowded. Every foster home frees a kennel space for another animal in need.
- •Cats thrive in homes. The shelter environment is stressful. Cats show their true personality in a home setting, making them more adoptable.
- •It's temporary. Fostering is a commitment, but it's not forever. You provide a safe landing pad until they find their permanent family.
- •You learn a lot. Fostering is a crash course in cat behavior, health, and socialization. It's rewarding in ways you don't expect.
🙋
Who Can Foster?
Almost anyone can foster. You don't need to be an expert — just willing to learn and provide a safe space.
- •A spare room, bathroom, or even a large crate for the initial adjustment period
- •Time for feeding, socializing, and monitoring (varies by cat)
- •Willingness to follow the rescue's medical and care protocols
- •Patience — some cats take days, others take weeks to decompress
You do not need to own your home — many landlords allow fosters, and rescues can help with documentation. You also don't need prior experience.
